This body of work, Vertices, speaks of my upbringing on Cape Cod and an ever-present fascination with atmospheric occurrences. A Vertex is defined as the highest point or apex; in astronomy it is used to describe the pinnacle point in the motion of a celestial body or the perceived direction of a steam of stars. I use composition and scale to present the viewer with scenes where the natural magnificence looms over the man-made world. In my exploration of themes of The Sublime, I wish to present the beauty of nature while simultaneously acknowledging its undeniable and sometimes unsettling power.
